I clearly have a goofy side. I figure I might as well share that aspect of myself ‘cause I’m not all work (ok, just 97%).
To get things started, I’m posting something that’s not so goofy: I’m headed out to explore Fogg Butte, a small mountain in Idaho. My dad and I are going. I think my mom may join us.
Below is a map I created to highlight areas of interest. We’ll be riding ATVs to these locations. Yes, that’s lazy.
UPDATE: I’m back!. We explored the area below (on foot, no ATVs) and found an old homestead in the green region. Surprise! During our time researching all this, we learned a lot about my great, great grandfather James Fogg. He didn’t live on this mountain. He was too wealthy for homesteading (another surprise). He owned the lumber mills throughout the area, including one near this area. Somehow I thought he was a poor lumberjack. Turns out he was the CEO of a company that cut down old growth forests, hiring up to 100 men to do the dirty work. There’s more to tell . . . like how he came West at age 16 with Johnston’s Army to vanquish the Mormons. That didn’t quite turn out as expected (he married one).
