I’m 80% convinced that blogging is not worth the time most people devote to it. Yes, I’ve had a few blogs over the years. But to what end?
Of course, it would be snappy to call my blog “The Fogg Blog.” But I will resist! Instead, I’m going to post stuff in a form that is not a blog. Q&A seems a good format for me. Perhaps I’ll answer in video sometimes. --BJ
Q: When are you teaching the Facebook course again?
Short answer: Not in Fall 2008.- Longer answer . . . This question is about the Facebook app class that Dave McClure and I taught in Fall 2007. Dave and I are working on a course (or a short series) dealing with metrics and designing better user experiences.
Q: I’m doing my Ph.D. at [XYZ] University. Can I spend a semester researching in your lab?
Short answer: It’s possible, but visiting as a student is very expensive.- Longer answer . . . To be officially visiting Stanford as a student, the cost is enormous. This Fall I’m happy to be hosting one visiting doctoral student from Europe. But this was feasible only because his country already had a visitor relationship set up with Stanford. I’m sure this was not cheap (or perhaps the cost isn’t so bad, given the Euro). As a lone student wanting to visit, the cost seems to be about $120,000 for one year at Stanford -- just for Stanford’s fee. That doesn’t cover my lab’s expenses or housing or food . . . . I wish it were otherwise.
